Introducing the NEW Hoval Lab Seal

Ideally suited for laboratories or indirect evaporative cooling (IEC) applications

Even though standard Hoval plate exchanger construction leads to very low leakage levels, plate exchangers cannot be considered 100% leak-proof unless special measures are taken. The NEW Hoval Lab Seal option from Innergy tech is such a measure and enables us to guarantee completely air tight exchangers.  

Perfect for laboratories or indirect evaporative cooling (IEC) applications, the Hoval Lab Seal option means that run-around loops or heat pipes are no longer the only alternative for these critical applications.

Seal key elements with Hoval quality

Multiple-fold edges (standard): Multiple folded plate connections provide superior rigidity, reduce pressure drops and help create leak-proof leading and trailing edges.

Special silicone-free casting process (standard): The corners of Hoval exchangers are not sealed using silicone. Instead, a casting process using a special 2-part thermoset resin is employed. The resin has a viscosity close to water when poured, but becomes rock hard once completely set. This process has several major advantages:

  1. The initial low viscosity ensures the product reaches even the smallest of cavities.
  2. The product seals the inner edges as it flows down towards the corner.
  3. All spacings communicate through the bottom section of the specially designed aluminum profile, which  makes it impossible to forget a section.
  4. The process is simple, results is perfectly sealed exchangers every time and is not related to the worker’s experience or special technique.

Note: This standard process underpins our AHRI 1060 certified exchangers with 0% EATR (transfer from exhaust to supply) for up to 3” WC pressure differential.

NEW optionalHoval Lab Seal

Even with the above advantages, an extra step is required for special applications where even the smallest exhaust transfer is not acceptable.  The Hoval Lab Seal option consists of filling all edges with additional resin. Once completed, the process results in perfectly sealed exchangers.

Air Tests (optional): If required, Innergy tech lab engineers can even perform full air tests on your exchanger. All edges are tested at the same time by creating a vacuum on one side of the exchanger and measuring, for a given pressure differential (standard 1.6’’WC), the exchanger leakage level in CFM. Since all tests come with a certain tolerance, an exchanger must have no more than 0.1% of its nominal CFM measured through the Venturi assembly to be considered acceptable. This simple but effective test comes with a full test report detailing the setup and complete results. Our customers are also welcome to come and witness the complete testing procedure if desired.
